A hup B gene based PCR for the diagnosis of pediatric tuberculous meningitis
Tuberculosis (TB) caused by Mycobacterium bovis is clinically indistinguishable from disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis. In much of the developing world, bovine TB is uncontrolled placing young children who drink contaminated milk at risk. In many countries, its occurrence is reported to be sporadic and control measures based on test-and-slaughter policies and disease notification are...
متن کاملRapid diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis by a dot-immunobinding assay.
In this study, a dot-immunobinding assay (Dot-Iba) was standardized to measure circulating antimycobacterial antibodies in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens for the rapid laboratory diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis (TBM). Specific CSF-IgG antibody to Mycobacterium tuberculosis from a culture proven patient with TBM was isolated and coupled with activated Cynogen bromide-Sepharose 4B. U...

Objective(s) This study planned to assess the value of PCR IS6110 assay in tissue specimens of needle pleural biopsy in patients suspicious to pleural tuberculosis. Materials and Methods Sixty eight patients with lymphocytic exudative pleural effusion underwent pleural biopsy. Tissue samples were sent for pathologic examination and PCR IS6110 assay. The results of PCR reported as positive/ nega...
متن کاملImproving the bacteriological diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis.
We made a bacteriological diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis in 107 of 132 (81%) adults with clinical tuberculous meningitis: acid-fast bacilli were seen in 77 of 132 (58%) and cultured from 94 of 132 (71%). Volume of cerebrospinal fluid, duration of symptoms, cerebrospinal fluid neutrophils, lactate, and glucose were all independently associated with bacteriological confirmation.
